To date, Kiwitech’s primary business model has been the leasing and operation of smart surveillance technology. These assets are currently deployed in 28 cities across Malaysia, primarily through a national Safe City program spanning 25 cities. In addition to camera poles and related infrastructure, this program also includes integration with operation centers in each city, providing a citywide view of incoming video from each of these sources.

For its next phase, Kiwitech is moving to build a new program under the “Smart City” banner. This program will combine more advanced sensor technology (including aerial monitoring systems) along with a platform to integrate these data sources with other operational data sources from cities, enabling cities to use the Data Driven Cities (DDC) platform to optimize all aspects of city operations. The core of the DDC platform will be a highly-flexible platform that ingests data from various sources, combines and transforms that data for analysis, and presents results to customers in a user-friendly graphical interface built around custom dashboards to fit each clients’ needs. This platform will also be able to integrate advanced technologies such as AI and machine learning, in order to extract actionable insights from the massive volumes of video and sensor data collected from Kiwitech’s surveillance and monitoring infrastructure.

As a part of this initiative, Kiwitech is also developing a “Low Carbon Cities” program, which will build on the DDC platform technology to focus on environmental factors such as traffic congestion and air quality marketing. This offers an opportunity to not only build a general-purpose data platform but to apply it to provide a comprehensive solution in a specific and highly-relevant vertical. Future efforts can build on the platform’s capabilities in other key areas as well (including mobility, energy usage, and waste management), providing even more opportunities to make the platform an invaluable tool for partner cities.
